beauty therapistThe Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 2 course is a great training course, allowing anyone with an aspiration for a career in the ever growing beauty industry. The Course will allow students to gain the qualifications they need to either apply for work in a salon or spa, or even provide them with skills to start their own beauty business.

To gain entry onto this course, prospective students do not always need to have a NVQ level 1 course successfully first, so it is important to check with the course provider. The course can take up to two years dependent on if the student is part time or full time. This allows flexibility which even makes the course great for mature students, or parents.

What does the course cover?

Course content can vary dependent on where it is studied. However the qualification itself offers a wide range of great modules, which will leave students confident in a variety of beauty and therapy based procedures. Course modules will include the following treatments:

  • Manicure and pedicure methods

Many schools also offer skills such as receptionist duties, product promotion and communication and ICT skills. During the course a mixture of practical and theory lessons will take place. Practical lessons will be in a realistic salon like environment, with therapies being carried out on other students, real life clients or dummies and dolls.

NVQ assessment methods

The course is assessed through a variety of ongoing methods. Throughout the course students are assessed through ongoing reviews and practical assessments, allowing them to show the skills they have learnt. These tasks will be based on what the student has learnt and allow him or her to be able to show of their skills. Alongside this written assignments are also set throughout the course for students to complete. These written assignments often include case studies which will allow students to apply their practical knowledge to a situation.

What can I do after training?

On completion of the course, students will be ready to gain employment if they choose. Many student enjoy working on cruise ships, beauty salons or even massage companies. Beauty therapists can make up to £50 per hour, which allows students to know that they are going to be part of a well paying industry. On the other hand employment is not for everyone after course completion and some students end up starting their own business, often in a specific area of beauty therapy such as nails or massage. However to gain an even better understanding and develop more skills, some students embark on Beauty Therapy NVQ 3 to learn more.
